About Us

The Newman Students’ Society serves its membership as a social club packed with a year of awesome events and dinners, a social justice club offering its members dozens of amazing opportunities to become involved in charity endeavors and give back to the community, and a common interest club where ideas are exchanged and passions inspired. The Newman Students’ Society is all three of these things, and much, much more. Newman is a Catholic community that has become a family to all of its members.

The NSS bears the responsibility of fulfilling its membership socially, with friends and activities; intellectually with lectures, discussions, and interfaith events; and spiritually, with social justice activities and charity outreach.

Our community is ready to enter into interfaith dialogue and sharing to both learn about other religions and teach them about ourselves, but most importantly to promote peace, tolerance, and friendship during these difficult times in our human history. The Newman Students’ Society wants to make itself approachable and usable by all members of the McGill community from all faiths and backgrounds. The Newman Students’ Society is an amazing club, made possible by dedicated and inspired members who want to share in celebrating the joys of life and exploring the Catholic faith

Mission Statement

To provide a vibrant social, intellectual and spiritual environment, which is enriching for students and the community at large; and to work closely with people of other traditions to promote dialogue, respectful appreciation and cooperation in a divided world.

In a society that longs for meaning and hope, we seek to educate the community about the rich reflections that form the Catholic tradition. We support other young people in the adventure of learning and serving and together educate and prepare ourselves to provide Christian leadership and service.
